View STL meshes online

Inspect a binary or ASCII STL file as its actual triangle mesh. STL is useful for exchanging surface geometry and checking the shape of a part, but it does not contain a CAD assembly or reliable source-unit metadata.

Open an STL mesh

Inspect the actual triangles

Rotate, pan and zoom the imported surface. A normal STL import is one mesh; it has no separate parts for an assembly tree or an exploded view. Mesh shading and sections can help inspect the surface, but do not validate manufacturability.

Set units before measuring

STL source units are unknown. Choose the actual unit used by the author before reading a physical length. Measurements are approximate triangle-based results. An open mesh cannot provide a dependable enclosed volume.

Binary, ASCII and mesh limits

The viewer supports binary and ASCII STL and validates declared binary triangle-record lengths. Empty, corrupt and over-budget files are rejected. Imports are limited to two million triangles; browser and GPU limits also depend on the device.

How to view a model

  1. Open the viewer and select your .stl file.
  2. Check that the expected single mesh is displayed and review any notices.
  3. Choose the correct source unit before taking a physical measurement.
  4. Rotate or section the surface and save the images or measurements you need.
